Frequently Asked Questions
The EcoPile system is an innovative, hybrid steel pile footing system designed as a modern, compliant alternative to traditional concrete foundations and screw piles. It uses the exclusive Surefoot multi-directional piling technology to achieve immediate load-bearing capacity without the mess, excavation, and curing time of concrete.
Due to our CodeMark-certified status, the EcoPile system often eliminates the need for frustrating and time-consuming pre-pour council inspections. This streamlines your project and helps you move forward faster. However, other inspections will still apply where required.
Due to our CodeMark-certified status, the EcoPile system often eliminates the need for frustrating and time-consuming pre-pour council inspections, unlike conventional concrete foundations. This streamlines your project and helps you move forward faster.
The EcoPile system offers fast installation because it requires no excavation, no spoil removal, and zero curing time. Installation can often be completed in a fraction of the time compared to traditional methods. Experienced installers can get these in the ground in as little as 5 minutes per post, however install time can vary depending on ground conditions.
The multi-directional steel pile design is engineered for maximum versatility. It performs exceptionally well across diverse and challenging ground conditions, from soft sand and unstable soil to hard rock and heavily sloping sites, making it ideal for the varied terrain across NZ.
Yes! One of the key advantages of our system is that it can often be installed by competent builders and DIY homeowners using simple hand tools, eliminating the need for specialist heavy machinery or crews. We provide comprehensive technical support to assist you.
Our system is a genuinely environmentally friendly footing option. It eliminates the need for concrete (reducing carbon footprint), requires very little (if any) excavation (preventing site disruption), and the steel components are fully reusable and recyclable.
Pricing depends on pile type, quantity, load requirements, and site conditions. In many cases, using the EcoPile footings system can reduce costs by cutting down on excavation, spoil removal, and concrete. Loading per pile varies depending on the structure and soil conditions. Our standard systems cover a wide range of loads, and we can engineer to suit your project. We currently have footing configurations rated up to 50 tonnes capacity (depending on soil conditions and design requirements).
If we hit rock, we either relocate slightly, pre-drill, or adjust the footing design depending on the depth and conditions. For sand, we can use a footing configuration designed for low-bearing soils, and we size it based on site conditions to ensure it meets engineering requirements. Every job is assessed to suit the ground it’s going into.
Our standard galvanised system is designed to comply with code durability requirements, and for coastal/saline/high-corrosion sites, we can supply stainless steel components where required.
Yes! We’ve supplied and installed in multiple regions across the country. If you message us your site location, we can confirm local availability, lead times, and what setup suits the ground conditions in that area.
We are able to supply and distribute EcoPile footings internationally. If you send us your country/region and intended use, we can advise on logistics, compliance requirements, lead times and partnership options
Seismic performance depends on the site class, soil profile, and full building design. The system is designed to meet engineering requirements, and where earthquake loads apply, we ensure the footing design and bracing details are engineered accordingly.
Bracing is handled as part of the overall foundation design. We can supply options to suit the build, including bracing solutions and anchoring alternatives, depending on wind/seismic loads and the subfloor layout. If you share your plan or floor size, we can point you to the best setup.
Yes, in many cases they can be removed and reused, depending on soil type, corrosion conditions, and how they were installed.
We design our galvanised components to meet a minimum 50-year service life in line with building code requirements. If the site has aggressive conditions (saline/coastal or highly corrosive groundwater), we can supply stainless steel options for extra protection.
Yes, steep sites are common. The footing layout and pile lengths are adjusted to suit the slope, and terraces are typically engineered based on the design levels and ground conditions.
Alignment is controlled using temporary bracing/jigs, accurate set-out, and installation in a sequence that keeps everything square and plumb. Once fixed, the system locks into position.
Not every job needs a full Geotech report, it depends on the build type and local requirements.
Yes, we can most certainly provide engineering documentation and available test data for compression, tension, and lateral performance. Please contact us directly for more information.
Yes, EcoPile foundations can work very well for container homes, especially for fast installs and raised floors. We just need the container size, layout, and site details to confirm the footing configuration.
A footing is the part that transfers the load into the ground. A foundation is the full system that supports the structure (footings + piles/posts + bracing/slab, depending on the build).
